Nicholas Meyer is joining CBS’ new Star Trek series

STAR TREK fans know who Nicholas Meyer is, but, for those of you not up on your TREK history, you should know Meyer is a major figure in modern STAR TREK lore. He was the director at the helm for what is widely regarded as the best of the STAR TREK films, STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN. He was also in the director’s chair for STAR TREK VI: THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY. In addition, he penned the screenplays for VI as well as STAR TREK IV: THE VOYAGE HOME, so to say that Meyer isn’t an important piece of how STAR TREK fans view their beloved franchise over the years would be quite the understatement.

That guy just re-entered the STAR TREK Universe, signing on as a creative force for CBS’ new STAR TREK series.

Meyer has signed on as a consulting producer and writer for Bryan Fuller’s show, which will be airing on CBS All Access sometime in 2017, and, for any STAR TREK fans that may have been skeptical about what this new piece of programming might be, this should do a lot to ease your troubled little minds.

Meyer has been an integral force in STAR TREK for years, knowing it extremely well and finding success in the franchise in the past. That’s the kind of person you want involved with doing something new with the brand, because he’s proven before that he simply gets it. And, as a STAR TREK fan, you should be high-fiving your fellow brothers and sisters in Enterprise arms that CBS is taking the right steps at this point to show this is something more than a cash-in on an already popular property. This has a chance to be something really good.

Nicholas Meyer chased Kirk and Khan ’round the Mutara Nebula and ’round Genesis’ flames, he saved the whales with the Enterprise and its crew, and waged war and peace between Klingons and the Federation. We are thrilled to announce that one of ‘Star Trek’s’ greatest storytellers will be boldly returning as Nicholas Meyer beams aboard the new ‘Trek’ writing staff,’ said Brad Fuller in a statement.

Those are the sentiments that should have you excited right now.
