Now Ridley Scott claims there are Ripley connections in Alien: Paradise Lost

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

We many never get Ridley Scott to shut up about PROMETHEUS 2… sorry, ALIEN: PARADISE LOST. Now that the cat is out of the bag about the title and the closer we inch toward him heading into production sometime next year, he wants to tell us all the things about the next movie whether we want him to or not. By the time he even puts this thing in front of cameras, it wouldn't surprise me if he's told us the entire movie. That's how much he can't stop himself at this point.

But the more he talks, the more he also contradicts himself that going into ALIEN: PARADISE LOST, we may not have a cohesive idea of what he's doing… and neither might he. First it wasn't going to be an ALIEN movie. Now it is. Then it wasn't going to have any ALIEN ties, and now, in his latest comments, it will.

In a way it is Prometheus 2. It’s exactly the same story. But it was always in the works to be called that [Alien: Paradise Lost]. Is Prometheus actually taking us off course from where I’m going, which is actually backing into the first Alien… I’ve even got connections with Ripley [in this], but I’m not telling you what.

If anything, Scott seems genuinely excited about whatever movie he's making, so let's hope that enthusiams seeps into the material and we get a better sequel that really does something toward tying the various threads of this universe as well as tells a better overall story. Early word is that Scott managed to knock THE MARTIAN out of the park, so perhaps he's got some momentum going in his favor for the first time in awhile.

In addition, Scott also clarified where things stand with Neill Blomkamp's ALIEN film and how they're going to work together yet separately from each other.

I’m producing it. The design is for it to go out next, after this. This will go out first. It’s more associated with Ripley, it’s a completely different angle, it’s more of a sequel. I’m coming in from the back end.

And somehow I'd imagine we're all going to wind up meeting in the middle.

If PROMETHEUS 2 is now ALIEN: PARADISE LOST, what do you suppose Blomkamp will wind up calling his ALIEN feature?
