Ratner’s Youngblood

Polarizing director Brett Ratner has signed on to direct YOUNGBLOOD, a film based on the comic series about a superhero team sanctioned and overseen by the U.S. government. Hmm, sounds kinda like another movie based on a comic that’s coming out next month. The only difference is that YOUNGBLOOD ain’t WATCHMEN and Brett Ratner sure as shit ain’t Zack Snyder.

The rights to the comic have been acquired by Indian media powerhouse Reliance, who seem to have their hands dipped in many Hollywood pools these days. According to Ratner, the beauty of working with the faceless conglomerate is the speed at which they move. One day the rights are acquired, and the next you’re in production. Ratner claims that YOUNGBLOOD is a “passion project” for him and then goes on to say that it is one of the few graphic novels that remain with “tentpole potential”. Nice to see that Ratner thinks of his films in terms of sequels and not as individual works of art. Man this dude bothers me.
