In addition to my work here on JoBlo.com, I co-host a weekly podcast called "The Beard & The Bald" with our former editor-in-chief Paul Shirey who, recently, had the chance to interview "Deadpool" creator Rob Liefeld, who's out promoting "Snake-Eyes: Deadgame", a spin-off of the classic G.I JOE hero whose getting his own feature later this year starring Henry Golding. While chatting about his new work on the series, Liefeld had plenty to say about the likelihood of a new Deadpool/Cable movie given the fact that Disney now owns the franchise, and what the original plan was.

“Fox had a plan. They had a plan. I had lunches with Josh [Brolin]. We talked about how excited we were about what was going to unfold with Cable and Drew Goddard was going to make X-Force and Fox had a great plan and Fox had managed their Deadpool and, right there at the end, their Logan brand exquisitely, those movies are so ridiculously successful. I hate to say even profitable, because they obviously were that above all else, but they put smiles on people’s faces, they gave people the feels. They had a great track record.”

It's hard to imagine that, given the extreme popularity of the franchise, a DEADPOOL 3 isn't everyone's priority right now, but I suppose everyone has temporairly moved on, with Reynolds having FREE GUY, RED NOTICE, and THE HITMAN'S WIFE'S BODYGUARD all on the way. As such, Liefeld speculated that “Ryan’s [Reynolds] dance card, as they say, right, is so full. It’s so full…so, if Deadpool [3] shoots, is that in 2023 now?”

On whether or not Disney knows what they have with Deadpool/X-Force, Liefeld had this to say: “There’s no such thing as a lagging interest in Deadpool or a lagging interest in X-Force. It’s active, people want it…Here’s one thing that a Disney deep insider, my version of deep throat told me: If it wasn’t activated before the pandemic, all those Fox properties are kind of behind a piece of glass that says ‘break in case of emergency’. And Paul, when all your resorts are shut down and you can’t release your films and you paid $70 billion for Fox, don’t you have to do something?”

And should the franchise never actually re-launch, and a DEADPOOL 3 never happens, Liefeld said, "I’m okay with it. I feel like some guys are never going to be able to experience the true pleasure and joy that I did watching these movies come together. And If there’s never another one, I’m fine. I operate my life as if there’s not going to be one. But, we didn’t pre-negotiate this interview, you asked this, I’m not choosing to dance in the Deadpool world at all. If I’m just honest, I wouldn’t look forward to [a Deadpool sequel] anytime soon. That enrages people and it’s not meant to be personal. I’m trying to look out for you. Now, maybe if he crawls into a cameo somewhere, great, but don’t we want more than that for these characters? We should. They’ve done very well.”

So there you have it. It looks like, for a little while anyway, the likelihood of a DEADPOOL 3 coming anytime soon is remote. For more of Liefeld's interview with Paul, check it out here!
