Stallone wields a mighty hammer in early prep for filming Samaritan

Now that Sylvester Stallone's RAMBO: LAST BLOOD has called for a cease fire on the film's relentless PR blitz, it's time for the Italian Stallion to look toward the future, and flex his talents for other projects that are waiting in the wings. One such endeavor is the upcoming superhero spectacle from OVERLORD director Julius Avery, SAMARITAN. MGM closed a deal for the thriller back in September, and immediately set Stallone as the film's lead. With production expected to kick into high gear early next year, it should come as no surprise that Stallone is already getting pumped for the new film.

Based on an original idea, SAMARITAN centers on young boy who is out to discover if a mythic superhero, who vanished 20 years earlier following a tragic event, is still alive. Screenwriter Bragi F. Schut (ESCAPE ROOM) will pen the script for Avery's latest, which has Stallone and Balboa Productions partner Braden Aftergood producing as the first project of their newly-formed studio. In addition to writing the film, Schut will also executive produce.

Stallone announced his SAMARITAN prep on Wednesday via Twitter, by posting a photo of himself that would have Chris Hemsworth's Thor thinking twice about going toe-to-toe with the DEMOLITION MAN alum. I say this because in the photo, Stallone is holding a mighty Gunnaa-brand sledgehammer, complete with a stylish, spiral grip. Now, while I am 100% Team Mjolnir, I must admit that Stallone's hammer looks as if it could do some righteous damage to the God of Thunder, should push come to shove.

You can check out Stallone's Twitter post below:

Would you look at the smile on Stallone's face? Something tells me that he's very excited to take part in an original superhero venture, particularly if that role has him wielding objects as intimidating as that sledgehammer. Criminals beware, the Italian Stallion has got a hammer, and he's not afraid to use it.

SAMARITAN is looking to swing into theaters on November 20, 2020.
