Suicide Squad fans declare July 20 #ReleaseTheAyerCut day

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

In this post-Snyder Cut age that we live in, fans of particular filmmakers aren't completely satisfied with studio-approved versions of films that are ushered in as the finished product. When Zack Snyder made it known that his cut of JUSTICE LEAGUE was headed to HBO Max, fans of David Ayer and SUICIDE SQUAD began demanding an Ayer Cut of that film as well. David Ayer even went as far as to say that an Ayer Cut of SUICIDE SQUAD wouldn't even take much to complete. Now David Ayer fans are demanding that Warner Bros. release the director's cut of SUICIDE SQUAD and they are asking others to join the effort by getting the hashtag #ReleaseTheAyerCut to trend globally on social media, today, July 20.

The fan group behind the Ayer Cut movement announced the effort on Twitter with the following message:

Some might think these fan efforts can be a bit fruitless but with the release of Zack Snyder's JUSTICE LEAGUE next year on HBO Max, it gives fans a bit of hope that their voices will be heard and that the demand will be worth it for the studio to spend a little extra money to throw a director's cut of a particular film together. Ayer's SUICIDE SQUAD becomes a prime candidate for this movement because it's well-known that the film was stifled by studio interference and David Ayer has been very vocal about changes in tone that were implemented that didn't match his original vision. The fact that David Ayer is behind getting the director's cut out there makes fans believe that there may be something worth watching.

Do YOU think the #ReleaseTheAyerCut movement will work? Will we finally get a director's cut of SUICIDE SQUAD?
