Superman’s mom is a MILF: Diane Lane cast as Martha Kent

Mmm hmm. Oh, I know what you’re looking at. Because I am too. (Don’t kill me, Josh Brolin!)

According to THR, Zack Snyder has snagged himself the lovely Diane Lane (SECRETARIAT, UNFAITHFUL) to portray Ka-El’s adopted mama, Martha Kent – who Warner Bros. calls “the only mother Clark Kent has ever known” – in the director’s upcoming SUPERMAN: MAN OF STEEL. Lane will potentially play opposite Kevin Costner – who’s currently “a person of interest” – for the role of Superman’s adopted father Jonathan Kent. Those two make a good (and relatively young-looking) match.

Here are Snyder’s comments made in a statement regarding this latest casting:

“This was a very important piece of casting for me because Martha Kent is the woman whose values helped shape the man we know as Superman. We are thrilled to have Diane in the role because she can convey the wisdom and the wonder of a woman whose son has powers beyond her imagination.”

So really, only Lane and Supes himself Henry Cavill have been officially cast in the film. As mentioned, Costner is being looked at but isn’t locked. And then there’s the Viggo Mortensen who’s reportedly being considered for the role of the film’s heavy, General Zod. Now, as cool as that casting might be, the thing with Mortensen is that apparently the actor’s now very close to finalizing a deal to star in Universal’s SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, a film that would start production later this year and effectively take The Vig out of the SUPERMAN equation. If we must have Zod, who else then could fit the role well?

SUPERMAN: MAN OF STEEL is currently set for a December 2012 release.
