UPDATE: You would think after playing brothers for 15 years and establishing a friendship that transcended the series, Jared Padalecki would've been let in on the news that his co-star Jensen Ackles and his wife were developing a Supernatural prequel series at The CW but he apparently learned of the news when it broke to the rest of us via various media outlets. Reacting to the news that was broken by Deadline, Padalecki said, "Dude. Happy for you. Wish I heard about this some other way other than Twitter. I'm excited to watch, but bummed that Sam Winchester had no involvement whatsoever."  Fans apparently thought Padalecki was joking with his response but this was not the case. In a follow-up tweet, the actor said "This is the first I've heard about it. I'm gutted." I think these brothers need to have a chat. You can check out the Twitter exchanges below.

After fifteen seasons, Supernatural came to a close late last year, but you can't keep the Winchesters down. Deadline has reported that Jensen Ackles is developing a prequel series that will center on Dean and Sam Winchester's parents, John and Mary. The Winchesters will be told from the perspective of Dean Winchester and tell the "epic, untold love story of how John met Mary and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world." Jensen Ackles will narrate the series as well as serve as executive producer alongside his wife, Danneel Ackles, though their Chaos Machine Productions banner.

"After Supernatural wrapped its 15th season, we knew it wasn’t over. Because like we say in the show, 'nothing ever really ends, does it?'," Jensen Ackles said. "When Danneel and I formed Chaos Machine Productions, we knew the first story we wanted to tell was the story of John and Mary Winchester, or rather the Supernatural origin story. I always felt like my character, Dean, would have wanted to know more about his parents’ relationship and how it came to be. So I love the thought of having him take us on this journey." In the main series, John and Mary were played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Samantha Smith, with Matt Cohen and Amy Gumenick playing the younger versions of the characters. The Winchesters has a script commitment from The CW and will be written and executive produced by Robbie Thompson, a former writer/co-executive producer on Supernatural.

This isn't the first time a Supernatural spin-off has been attempted, as The CW made two attempts to launch new series as backdoor pilots, Bloodlines and Wayward Sisters. Neither was picked up to series, but perhaps The Winchesters will have better luck. Are you down for a Supernatural prequel centering on Sam and Dean's parents?
