Warner Bros. finds a director for the upcoming Robotech adaptation

We have heard jack squat from the ROBOTECH adaptation. The last time we had a meaty story was 2007. They’ve been holding out on this for awhile. Warner Bros. have finally found a director to helm the project: Nic Mathieu. This will be the first feature for the helmer, who is known for the great CG in his commercials. Guess he gets to put some of those skills to use now.

Akiva Goldsman and Tobey Maguire will produce on the film. The project has been through plenty of writers, but none so far have impressed. It’s good that they finally found someone to direct, I suppose. ROBOTECH is being looked at as a huge potential franchise, much like TRANSFORMERS. Time to find a cast of fresh, young faces, right? RIGHT?

The story is set at, “a time when Earth has developed giant robots from the technology on an alien spacecraft that crashed on a South Pacific island. Mankind is forced to use the technology to fend off three successive waves of alien invasions. The first invasion concerns a battle with a race of giant warriors who seek to retrieve their flagship’s energy source known as “protoculture,” and the planet’s survival ends up in the hands of two young pilots.”

Now, ROBOTECH was always one of those animes on the shelf that I always wanted to pick up, but never did. I think it had to do with the fact that no one around me had ever seen it. When I was younger, I would just grab random anime titles to check out. These days, there seems to be a bajillion anime films out, so I never know what to get without a recommendation. Any of you have Hulu? There are so many anime movies on there. So many.

You guys ready for this ROBOTECH adaptation? Or would you rather it took its robot ass elsewhere?
