It turns out that when the apocalypse comes, it will be actors like Mark Hamill, Rosario Dawson, Catherine O'Hara and more who will be leading the charge against the many monsters, lunatics, and undead that long to see the world torn asunder.

On Wednesday, Deadline exclusively revealed that Hamill, Dawson, and O'Hara will be joining Keith David, Bruce Campbell, Garland Whitt, Montse Hernandez, Charles Demers, and Nick Wolfhard for THE LAST KIDS ON EARTH, an animated series based on the novel series of the same name by Max Brallier.

“The way the series resonates with readers around the world — it’s absolutely humbling. I’m so pleased that the adventures of Jack Sullivan and his friends will continue to grow, both on the page and now on screen,” said Brallier while speaking with Deadline. “I couldn’t ask for better partners – Atomic Cartoons, Netflix and Penguin – to help me share these stories. And I’m beyond excited to reveal the newest cover while announcing this incredible cast. Seeing these actors bring the characters to life is a dream come true.”

Published by Penguin Random House, The Last Kids on Earth follows 13-year-old Jack Sullivan and a gathering of suburban middle schoolers who live in a tree house that would make THE SANDLOT gang green with envy. While chilling among the branches, the group play video games, scarf down enough candy to Halloween blush, and combat zombies in the aftermath of the monster apocalypse. You know, typical end-of-the-world kids stuff. Like you do.

Developed by Atomic Cartoons, Brallier's series is set to come to life on Netflix with Wolfhard as the voice of Jack Sullivan later this year. As per the deal with Netflix, Brallier will act as creator and executive producer of the animation alongside Scott Peterson, who will showrun the series in addition to his role as an executive producer. Matthew Berkowitz and Jennifer Twiner McCarron also executive produce as representatives of Atomic.

The fifth book in The Last Kids on Earth series, titled The Last Kids on Earth and the Midnight Blade is set to arrive on bookstore shelves on September 17th.
