Lost in Space, Season 3, Netflix

It's been announced that the Robinson Family's epic excursion towards Alpha Centauri will be coming to an end as Netflix has renewed LOST IN SPACE for a third and final season. In addition to ordering another season of the space-faring fantasy adventure, series executive producer/showrunner Zack Estrin has engaged in a multi-year deal to produce new series exclusively for Netflix.

“From the beginning, we’ve always viewed this particular story of The Robinsons as a trilogy,” Estrin said. “A three part epic family adventure with a clear beginning, middle and end. It’s also worth noting that, with what these characters go through just trying to survive each episode — if anyone deserves to catch their breath before their next mission — it’s Will, Penny, Judy, Maureen, John, Don West, Dr. Smith… and The Robot. And, of course, Debbie the Chicken. So while this chapter of Lost In Space is coming to a rousing conclusion, I’m excited about continuing to explore new stories with my friends at Netflix, and for all of the incredible possibilities that lie ahead.”

When it comes to numbers, Nielsen reports that the first season of LOST IN SPACE launched to 3.16 million viewers overall for its first day of release on Netflix, a total that gave the streamer its third best premiere-day viewership of the year behind the sophomore season of STRANGER THINGS as well as the debut of David Ayer's BRIGHT, starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton. Unfortunately, the second season of LOST IN SPACE failed to crack Netflix's Top 10 chart, regardless of fans still tuning in to discover what manners of mystery and mischief awaited the Robinson family.

“We are so thrilled to share more adventures of The Robinson Family and see their journey through to what is sure to be an epic finale. We’re especially thankful to Zack Estrin,” said Ted Biaselli, Director of Original Series at Netflix. Matt Sazama, Burk Sharpless, Kevin Burns and Jon Jashni for helming Lost in Space, which has brought viewers a premium action-packed and visually spectacular series that the whole family can enjoy together, and we can’t wait for our family audiences to see where season 3 will lead!”

Starring Toby Stephens, Molly Parker, Maxwell Jenkins, Mina Sundwall, Taylor Russell, Ignacio Serricchio and Parker Posey, LOST IN SPACE reimagines the 1960's science fiction series that finds the Robinson family on a mission to find a better place to live among the cosmos. However, once the family is abruptly cast into the unknown, they must work together alongside new and unusual allies to survive in a foreign environment not meant for the fragile, human species.

LOST IN SPACE Season 3 will touch down on Netflix sometime in 2021.
