Netflix has unleashed a new trailer for THE DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE, a series that looks to take the Jim Henson-created world of the Gelflings and Skesis to new and exciting heights. Helmed by Louis Leterrier (NOW YOU SEE ME, THE INCREDIBLE HULK), the upcoming series features an all-star cast of greats, each lending their voices to the show's many heroes and villains alike. That cast includes icons the likes of Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy, Nathalie Emmanuel, Caitriona Balfe, Helena Bonham Carter, Harris Dickinson, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Theo James, Toby Jones, Shazad Latif, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong, Lena Headey, Mark Hamill, Keegan-Michael Key, Olafur Darri Olafsson, Jason Isaacs, Simon Pegg, Andy Samberg and Awkafina. Meanwhile, Sigourney Weaver is set to narrate the epic adventure.

Here's the official synopsis for THE DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE:

Based on The Dark Crystal, Jim Henson’s groundbreaking 1982 feature film, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance tells a new epic story, set many years before the events of the movie, and realized using classic puppetry with cutting edge visual effects. The world of Thra is dying. The Crystal of Truth is at the heart of Thra, a source of untold power. But it is damaged, corrupted by the evil Skeksis, and a sickness spreads across the land. When three Gelfling uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skeksis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins.

As you can see from the trailer above, THE DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE displays a seamless marriage between puppetry and today's CGI effects. As a child of the '80s – and someone who's trashed several VCRs thanks in-part to repeat viewings of films like LABYRINTH, RETURN TO OZ, LEGEND, and of course, THE DARK CRYSTAL – I cannot express how hyped I am for this series. Truth be told, I've actually taken the day off of work just so I can binge this series from start to finish, uninterrupted. Between the premiere of THE DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE, and Tool's new album, Fear Inoculum, being released on August 30, I'm going to be in my glory.

Here's hoping that THE DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE does insane numbers for the streamer, prompting Netflix to develop sequels to Henson's other classic works. I say this because I think that there can always be a bit more magic in the world, and nothing is more enchanting than the hard working men and women of The Jim Henson Company doing what they've always done best – creating cinema that stands the test of time.
