New details on Warner Bros. & Rob McElhenney’s Minecraft movie

It's been seven months since It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-creator and star Rob McElhenney was tapped by Warner Bros. to write and direct their MINECRAFT movie, and producer Roy Lee (THE LEGO MOVIE) recently provided an update on the video game adaptation during an interview with Collider, telling the site that “We are currently in the scripting stages,” and also "doing visual designs to show the studio what the world will look like.”

Lee (who we've heard from a couple of times now over the past week) went on to say that Mojang, the company behind the hit game, is heavily involved with the development of the planned film.

So they know everything is going to be in the movie that can give us insight into future updates so we can put things into the movie around the same time they relaunch newer versions of the game and at the same time, potentially taking ideas from the movie and putting them into the game. So I don’t know exactly what things are going into the game, but they know exactly what’s going into the movie.

Lee also said they are going for “the same target audience as Jurassic World," and gave a logline:

Minecraft would be part of a multiverse where humans can enter that has the feel of what the live action version of a Minecraft experience.

I think many of us just assumed that the movie will be completely animated, but based on the logline, it sounds like it might be live-action or a live-action/CGI hybrid. What do you hope to see in Warner Bros. and McElhenney's MINECRAFT?
