New Jessica Jones featurette focuses on director Krysten Ritter kicking ass

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

After spending a significant portion of her adult life portraying a nigh-indestructible private investigator for Netflix and Marvel's JESSICA JONES, Krysten Ritter will arrive as a contributing director for an episode of the show's third and final season. Ritter stepping behind the camera continues the tradition that the show has had of championing women both in front of and behind the camera, marking JESSICA JONES as an outstanding showcase for female talent in the arena of superhero cinema.

Today, Netflix has shared a brand-new featurette for Season 3 of JESSICA JONES, which takes us behind the scenes of Ritter's upcoming episode, and details her journey from actor to director on the acclaimed series. During the video, Ritter speaks about learning the ropes from some of Hollywood's best and brightest female talent, as well as the exhilarating feeling that comes from being the one who yells things like "action" and "quiet on the set!"

Jessica Jones, Season 3, Krysten Ritter

Here's the official plot synopsis for JESSICA JONES Season 3:

When Jessica (Krysten Ritter) crosses paths with a highly intelligent psychopath, she and Trish (Rachael Taylor) must repair their fractured relationship and team up to take him down.  But a devastating loss reveals their conflicting ideas of heroism, and sets them on a collision course that will forever change them both.

The series is executive produced by showrunner Melissa Rosenberg (DEXTER) and Jeph Loeb (MARVEL'S JESSICA JONES, MARVEL'S LUKE CAGE, MARVEL'S DARDEVIL) who also serves as Marvel’s Head of Television. MARVEL'S JESSICA JONES is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.

As the last installment of Marvel's Netflix offerings, I really hope that JESSICA JONES Season 3 sends the snarky super-sleuth out with a bang. Personally, the first season of JESSICA JONES has always been my favorite of the Netflix/Marvel bunch, thanks in-part to Ritter's efforts as well as David Tennant's powerful performance as the Purple Man. It's my hope that Disney+ will introduce a whole new era of small screen entertainment for some of Marvel's most beloved characters, and that perhaps Jessica, Daredevil, Frank Castle, Luke Cage, and yeah, even Iron Fist, can someday find themselves returning to the fray.

JESSICA JONES Season 3 will make its Netflix bow on June 14th.
