New Lost Boys Movie planned at WB: Noah Jupe & Jaeden Martell will star

Proving once again that everything old is new again, THR is reporting that Warner Bros is fast-tracking a new Lost Boys movie and have already set It: Chapter One star Jaeden Martell and A Quiet Place’s Noah Jupe as the leads. Randy McKinnon, who’s writing WB’s Static Shock movie, is penning the screenplay, while Jonathan Entwistle is set to direct. The latter is mainly known for his TV work, being the main director on End of the F***ing World, and the recent I’m Not Ok With This.

The original 1987 film is, of course, a modern classic. In it, Jason Patric and Corey Haim played brothers who move to Santa Carla, California but discover it’s home to “too many damn vampires.” Kiefer Sutherland iconically played David, the leader of a pack of sexy motorcycle-riding vamps, while Jami Gertz was Patric’s love interest, Star. The movie was brilliantly directed by the late great Joel Schumacher, who producer Richard Donner always credited with the film being a success. He changed the characters from kids to “sexy teens.”

When I read that Martell and Jupe had been cast in the leads, I assumed WB planned a Stranger Things-style take on the film, with it boasting a much younger cast. Then, I did a little research. It turns out Martell and Jupe are actually teens now, so it’s not that much of a departure from the original. Jason Patric and Kiefer Sutherland were twenty-one when the original was filmed, but Corey Haim and Corey Feldman were only sixteen. Martell is eighteen and Jupe is sixteen.

Hopefully, this new take on The Lost Boys will be better than the DTV sequels we got – Lost Boys: The Tribe and Lost Boys: The Thirst. The film will be set in the modern era. One thing is for sure – it’ll need a kick-ass soundtrack. The original had great tracks by INXS, Echo and the Bunnymen, and, most famously, Tim Capello as the greasy sax-playing boardwalk singer who belts out a cover of The Call’s “I Still Believe.”
