A new batch of genre flicks was viewed and slapped with officiall MPAA ratings this week, and I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the results. With that in mind, let’s jump in and see what the review board deemed appropriate (or inappropriate) for people of all ages.
First up, Wes Craven’s 25/8 scored a deliciously well-deserved R rating for strong bloody violence and pervasive language including sexual references. Nice! And here I thought Craven was going the PG-13 route. I guess after CURSED, he likely won’t be trying to pull that shit again.
Then there’s the ass-kickin’ babes in leather flick BITCH SLAP, whcih we’ve been following for what seems like years now, rocking a much anticipated R rating for brutal violence, strong sexual content and language throughout, and brief drug use. Where’s the nudity, yo? I guess the flick’s more like a big tease than anything else… oh well! At least it’s R!
Speaking of R rated hotties, MPAA also checked out LESBIAN VAMPIRE KILLERS and slapped it with a PG rating. Only kidding! Those lesbos scored an R rating for some language, sexual content and horror violence. I’m hoping ‘sexual content’ means ‘chicks munch carpet while naked’, but it’s hard to tell with ambiguous reasons like that.
And finally, Joe Dante’s THE HOLE 3D, the only flick in this week’s batch of genre flicks not recieving an R rating, but rather a PG-13 rating for frightening images, violence and some languages. Earlier reports had this sucker with a PG rating, so that extra ’13’ makes me think it’s a little more hardcore than people originally thought. Or the MPAA are wussies, which is also true.
Three hard Rs and a PG-13 kids movie. Not bad, my friends, not bad at all. And with ZOMBIELAND, I see even more R rated goodness headed our way in the future.
