New Scream movie directors announce that the film is complete

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Three weeks ago, Ready or Not (watch it HERE) directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett took to their social media accounts to let their followers know that their addition to the Scream franchise – a movie that is simply being called Scream – was picture locked, and that Brian Tyler had finished composing the score. After three weeks of further finishing touches, Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett have announced that their Scream is complete. Now we just have to wait six more months until the film reaches theatres on January 14, 2022. Six months of knowing the film is complete and ready to be seen. This is going to be torture for some fans!

Just like the previous Scream films, this one has been made with as much secrecy as possible. We don't know anything about the story it's telling, but we do know that franchise stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette have returned to the roles of Sidney Prescott, Gale Weathers, and Dewey Riley. They'll be sharing the screen with Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Mason Gooding, Dylan Minnette, Jack Quaid, Mikey Madison, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Kyle Gallner, and Sonia Ammar, who are all new to the franchise, as well as Scream 4's Marley Shelton, back as Judy Hicks.

Barrera's character is named Samantha Carpenter. The actress said,

[Directors] Matt [Bettinelli-Olpin] and Tyler [Gillett] bring their freshness to it, but we’re honoring Wes [Craven]. I think it’ll make the fans happy, but also bring in a new audience to the movies, which I’m excited about."

The screenplay for this new Scream was written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. Vanderbilt also produced the film for Project X Entertainment, alongside Paul Neinstein and William Sherak. Chad Villella and Kevin Williamson, writer of the original Scream, serve as executive producers.

While the previous films were released by Dimension, this Scream is coming to us from Paramount and Spyglass.
