I was wondering when this news would come out. Tarantino, who has notable cameos in PULP FICTION, RESERVOIR DOGS, and DEATH PROOF, will be appearing in DJANGO UNCHAINED as well. But, it seems to have been a last minute decision.

IndieWire reports that Rex Linn, who plays Tennessee Harry in DJANGO UNCHAINED, revealed the news of QT’s role: “Quentin told me that he liked the scene so much he wanted to be in it, too, and that he would also be taking some of my lines,” Linn revealed. “So, you’ll know the scenes when you see them. We’ll be on the screen with Don Johnson and Jonah Hill. The scenes may not be long, but you will remember them.”

This would likely mean Tarantino cast himself as one of The Regulators, “a group of people who kept slaves in line, found them if they escaped, and terrorized them.” We previously reported from Comic Con that the scene features a Regulator raid against Foxx and Waltz’s bounty hunters. “It starts off like it’s going to be very scary,” explained Tarantino, “And then they have this sequence that’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever written. Right up there with handing out the color names in RESERVOIR DOGS.”

That sounds fantastic. Tarantino may not be the best actor in the world, but he certainly knows which plum parts to take for himself. I look forward to seeing this ragtag team on the big screen.

IndieWire also reported that Tarantino and DJANGO UNCHAINED actor John Jarratt have tossed around the idea of filming a movie in Australia. While this could just be one of many possible projects for Tarantino, it wouldn’t shock me. Australia has been known for their genre film-making and exploitation films which have grown in popularity in recent years thanks to the internet.

DJANGO UNCHAINED opens on Christmas Day.
