Nicholas Hoult’s J.R.R. Tolkien biopic lands a May 2019 release

Our next journey into the mind of J.R.R. Tolkien may not be taking place in Middle-Earth, but will rather take the form of a biopic centering around the life of the famed "Lord of the Rings" author. We haven't heard all that much about TOLKIEN since it wrapped production near the end of 2017, but that's about to change as the film is coming out within the next few months.

Fox Searchlight and Chernin Entertainment have announced that TOLKIEN will be hitting theaters on May 10, 2019, so mark your calendar's! Directed by Dome Karukoski with a script by David Gleeson and Stephen Beresford, TOLKIEN stars Nicholas Hoult (DARK PHOENIX) as J.R.R. Tolkien and Lily Collins (OKJA) as Edith Bratt, Tolkien's great love and eventual wife who would inspire the elven princess characters in the "Lord of the Rings" saga. TOLKIEN also stars Colm Meaney (Hell on Wheels), Anthony Boyle (THE LOST CITY OF Z), Patrick Gibson (The White Princess), Tom Glynn-Carney (DUNKIRK), Craig Roberts (22 JUMP STREET), Laura Donnelly (Outlander), Genevieve O'Reilly (ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY), Pam Ferris (HOLMES & WATSON), and Derek Jacobi (MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS). Here's the official logline for the upcoming biopic:

TOLKIEN explores the formative years of the orphaned author as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school. This takes him into the outbreak of World War 1, which threatens to tear the "fellowship" apart. All of these experiences would inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-Earth novels.

Again, TOLKIEN will hit theaters on May 10, 2019, but we'll also get to see Nicholas Hoult reprise the role of Hank McCoy/Beast for DARK PHOENIX on June 7, 2019.
