It seems like Steve Niles knows what he’s doing when it comes to graphic novels. The man has several under his belt, including 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, which was recently turned into a movie starring Josh Hartnett and Melissa George (below).
Well after 30 DAYS OF NIGHT hit theaters, everyone and anyone was looking to pick up Steve Niles’ graphic novels to make em into movies.
ShockTillYouDrop recently spoke to Mr. Niles on one of his upcoming projects, bringing his novel WAKE THE DEAD to the big screen.
Niles gives us a lot of juicy info on the upcoming flick, including a writer and director! Jay Russell will be directing while James V. Hart pens the script from Niles’ 4 part mini series.
Niles goes on to talk about how he’ll be more involved in this one than he was with 30 DAYS OF NIGHT. WAKE THE DEAD is explained as a modern-day retelling of FRANKENSTEIN. Here’s how Niles explains it:
“It’s Frankenstein, but it’s not the novel, it’s not the movie. It’s the gist of Frankenstein. It’s such a part of our psyche and I want to get it out there. And it’s a shame because every time people put it out there, it’s another period piece. For some reason or another, the kids today reject it. So, I’m hoping this will be more a more accessible and more visceral telling.”
I actually thought 30 DAYS OF NIGHT was one of the better horror films of the past few years, minus that ending. So I’m definately stoked to see Niles’ take on the FRANKENSTEIN story. Head on over to STYD to read a lot more about what Niles had to say regarding the project.
