Obi-Wan Kenobi premiere gets moved back but will feature a two-episode launch

Obi-Wan Kenobi is being forced to move from its original premiere date. Before you start shouting like an angry Tusken Raider, you should know that it’s only a two-day delay. Disney is postponing its launch of Obi-Wan Kenobi from Wednesday, May 25, to Friday, May 27. McGregor announced the postponement on Thursday via Twitter:

While it is a bummer that fans will have to wait two more days for the series to begin, there is an upside. Obi-Wan Kenobi will now have a two-episode premiere, giving you twice as much Star Wars action as you’d anticipated. However, you’ll still have to plan your Friday accordingly because that’s also the day that Stranger Things Season 4, Top Gun: Maverick, and Pac-Man Museum+ will be released. How will you choose between so many incredible things in one day? Only you can decide.

Disney has yet to clarify if Obi-Wan Kenobi will stick to a Friday release schedule for the remainder of the season. If Obi-Wan moves to a Wednesday release, it will overlap with Marvel Studios‘ Ms. Marvel, which debuts on Wednesday, June 8. While a simultaneous release seems unlikely, we won’t know the score until later.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series began shooting in April of last year, and the story is set 10 years after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. In addition to Ewan McGregor returning as the titular character, the series has also been touting the return of Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader. Joining McGregor and Christensen is an exciting ensemble cast that includes Joel Edgerton, Moses Ingram, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.
