Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner have a single evening to knock boots in the trailer for Will Gluck’s One Night Only

After turning heads back toward the romantic-comedy genre with 2023’s Anyone but You, starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, Will Gluck is at it again with One Night Only, which, on paper, sounds like The Purge, but for sex! Universal Pictures shared an adorably funny trailer for One Night Only on Wednesday, depicting a reality that no one in our real world would ever consent to. Well, I’m sure there are exceptions, and those people are really fun at parties.

Gluck on One Night Only‘s Premise

Starring Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown) and Callum Turner (Eternity) as Allie and Owen, One Night Only takes place in a world where premarital sex has been outlawed— except on that one special night. Wait! Why would anyone agree to this? “No one remembers,” Gluck told Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview. “It’s like all things political, no one remembers why. That’s not the point. The point is that they have an exception for one night a year.” Nope! Not in my society!

What are the rules for this single day of fornication freefall: for one night only, from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. the next day, people who are not married are allowed to have sex.

“It’s less about the act of having sex and more about the pursuit of it,” Gluck told EW about his unconventional rom-com. “So I guess if you were gonna make this analogous to The Purge, it would be like spending 12 hours deciding who to murder, as opposed to committing the murder [itself].”

Has the World Gone Mad?

Again, I say nope! I can’t imagine living in a world without free will, let alone one that denies the act of bedroom gymnastics. While I understand that abstinence is a choice for some, that should not apply to everyone. Imagine the pent-up tension. I’m sure that makes the sex better when it does finally happen, but good grief. What do we do about all the nymphomaniacs? What will happen to the porn industry?! This premise is nightmare fuel, I tell you! One Night Only is actually a horror movie! Heh. Not really. I’m being dramatic and having some fun at the film’s expense. Honestly, it looks cute.
