One of the guys who helped forever change the landscape of horror movies is back, although he’s heading to the Middle East to stir up some scares.

TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE director Tobe Hooper will make Imagenation Abu Dhabi’s Arabian horror film DJINN, described as a haunted house thriller that “uncovers the dark truth behind classic fairytales of the Genie.”

The horror genre speaks an international language and I am so pleased to be involved in a project with Imagenation Abu Dhabi that will transcend cultures and borders,” Hooper says. “Simply put, this movie will scare everyone, no matter where you live or what you believe in!”

DJINN tells “the nightmarish story of a young Emirati couple who return home from the U.S. and discover that their new apartment in a luxury high-rise built on the site of an abandoned fishing village is also home to the malevolent beings known as Djinn.”

While he hasn’t been very high-profile in recent years aside from a remake of TOOLBOX MURDERS and a couple of “Masters of Horror” episodes, Hooper once brought us SALEM’S LOT, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2, THE FUNHOUSE, the underappreciated LIFEFORCE and INVADERS FROM MARS, and POLTERGEIST (although there are still conflicting reports to this day that put producer Steven Spielberg in control of that movie).
