Page out of Hell

Last Updated on July 27, 2021

Remember earlier this month, when we got some great news. That news being that Oscar nominee Ellen Page would be starring in DRAG ME TO HELL, Mr. Sam Raimi’s (hopefully triumphant) return to horror.

Sure, Page (below) is great in low budget comedies, but her performance in HARD CANDY is still one of the best points of her young career in my opinion. And she was all set to return to the genre with a legend like Raimi… well we’ve been robbed of what looks like a great pairing.

We got word today from Mandate Pictures that Page has had to pull out of DRAG ME TO HELL due to scheduling conflicts. They had the following to say in a joint statement with Ghost House Pictures:

“We were racing to start production so that we could accommodate Ellen’s schedule. But like so many other productions trying to start before the potential SAG strike date, this one needed more time and we had to push back the start of production.”

So because of this change of production date, Page had to withdraw. This is a cruel business ladies and gentlemen, where we get teased so often and more times than none we’re left in disappointment.

Alright, maybe I’m overreacting. Maybe Page was just going to be icing on an already delicious cake. I mean it’s Sam Raimi! Doing a morality tale about the unwitting recipient of a supernatural curse. With Raimi (above) behind the camera, and he along with his brother Ivan doing the script, I’m sure we’re still in for something brilliant.

Aside from this though, I’m hoping the other genre flick starring Page, PEACOCK, is still good to go, because that one has me stoked!

We’ll keep you updated on any more DRAG ME TO HELL casting as we hear it.
