According to Deadline, Ana de Armas (Ballerina) and Kate Hudson (Song Sung Blue) have signed on to star in an original, big-screen erotic thriller called Palm Grove for Chernin Entertainment and director Kornél Mundruczó (Pieces of a Woman). As Deadline notes, “the package will hit the streets tomorrow and is sure to attract a number of buyers given the star power.”
What is Palm Grove about?
The story is set in Miami’s most exclusive neighborhood, where a picture-perfect wife uncovers her husband’s double life – igniting a seductive power game that turns betrayal into the most intoxicating game of her life.
The screenplay has been written by James Morosini, who wrote, directed, and starred in I Love My Dad, a film that won the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at SXSW. He’s not directing Palm Grove because he’s focused on directing a different project, Bulls, which has Dylan O’Brien, Lewis Pullman, and Kaia Gerber attached to star.
Morosini will serve as an executive producer on this film, which is being produced by Peter Chernin, David Ready, and Brady Fujikawa for Chernin Entertainment.
Chernin Entertainment is on a successful streak, having recently gotten Sophie Fleur de Bruijn’s romantic comedy One Month Mark, starring Jennifer Lawrence, set up at Apple Original Films in a highly competitive situation. Their recent hit projects include Backrooms, which has earned more than $260 million at the global box office; Apex, which reached #1 on Netflix’s global English film list; and Man on Fire, which debuted as the #1 TV show in the world on Netflix.
What else has Kornél Mundruczó directed?
Mundruczó got started making features in his native Hungary, and still tends to work there. His early credits include This I Wish and Nothing More, Pleasant Days, Johanna, Delta, and Tender Son: The Frankenstein Project. 2014’s White God was an international breakthrough success, and he has followed that with Jupiter’s Moon, Pieces of a Woman (which was executive produced by Martin Scorsese and earned lead actress Vanessa Kirby an Oscar nomination), Evolution, and At the Sea.

I feel like there aren’t enough erotic thrillers being made these days, so I look forward to seeing how this one is going to turn out.
