Paramount to return to the sewers for a third Ninja Turtles film

Pop Culture's Heroes in a Half Shell are poised to get another crack at the big screen, as Paramount has announced plans for a third film starring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Set to pen the script for the Fearsome Fighting Team's next outing is Andrew Dodge, writer of BAD WORDS, a 2013 comedy starring Jason Bateman that centers on a spelling bee loser who sets out to exact revenge by finding a loophole and attempting to win as an adult. Dodge is also the scribe of SPACE JAM 2, the never-thought-it-was-going-to-happen sequel to Warner Bros. 1996 animated sports comedy starring Michael Jordan, Wayne Knight, Bill Murray, and all of your favorite Looney Tunes characters.

Word of the new Turtles project comes from A QUIET PLACE producers Andrew Form and Bradley Fuller, who during a red carpet interview for the Critics Choice Awards told Variety“We’re doing a reboot of the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ at Paramount.” After that, the world wept. I'm just kidding, there are probably tons of TMNT fans who're bound to get excited about this project, hoping that it won't be as much of a colossal failure as Dave Green's 2016 box office bomb, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS.

Details about the project are scarce at this time, though you can wager all the pizza in the world that the new film will find the martial arts-wielding mutant turtles – Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo – defending New York City from all manner of villainous threats alongside their trusted companions, April O' Neil, and Master Splinter. How Paramount aims to re-invent the franchise for success remains a mystery, though it's important to note that the TMNT franchise is ripe with fantastic stories and characters – they just need to find a way to bring it all together for something that's worth a damn.

So, um, Cowabunga, I guess?
