Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne will not return for Insidious: Chapter 3

With INSIDIOUS and INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2 giving us some good scares the last couple of years, it seemed inevitable that the franchise would be milked for every last penny like SAW and PARANORMAL ACTIVITY before it. But, while INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3 is definitely coming our way next year, writer Leigh Whannel is planning some changes to prevent the story from getting stale.

Screen Rant interviewed Whannel and learned what the plans are for the third film and how it will relate to the first two installments. Here is what they learned.

A script for the film is complete.
Insidious 1 & 2 stars Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne are NOT returning.
Insidious 3 will focus on a new family and story.
That story is NOT connected to the last scene in Insidious 2.
Whannell and Sampson WILL returns as ghost hunters Specs and Tucker, respectively.

It seems kind of add to title the movie INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3 if this will be a completely separate story from the frst two films.  With Patrick Wilson joining the cast of ANT-MAN, it begs the question as to whether they had to come up with a new family or if this was the plan all along.  The first two films do fit together nicely and while a sequel is not impossible, I am glad to see they are going in another direction.

But, will the same demonic forces be haunting the new family or will this be a sequel in name only?  Either way is fine by me as long as we get scares on par with the first movies.  INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3 will hit theaters on April 3, 2015.
