“To grow up might just be the biggest adventure of all,” says Wendy Darling in the upcoming Peter Pan & Wendy. But judging by Disney’s latest trailer, there will be plenty of adventures before that to be had in Neverland.
The Peter Pan & Wendy trailer takes us from London to Neverland while also re-introducing viewers to fan favorite characters like Tinker Bell (Yara Shahidi), the Lost Boys and even Nana, the Darling family dog. And of course there is Peter himself (Alexander Molony), Wendy Darling (Ever Anderson) and one of cinema’s most dastardly pirates, Captain Hook (Jude Law), who will be backed by his first mate Shmee (Jim Gaffigan, in what could be a stroke of genius casting decision).
Peter Pan & Wendy joins a long list of Disney’s live action remakes of their animated classics. In addition to this retelling of the wonderful 1953 film (itself an adaptation of the J.M. Barrie play-turned-novel), this year will also see the release of The Little Mermaid on May 26th. Of course, Peter Pan has been adapted multiple times, going back to the silent era. Peter Pan & Wendy is, believe it or not, the fifth take on the story and characters in a decade. And it won’t be the last, either, as the makers of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey will be releasing Peter Pan: Neverland Nightmare. On the more family-friendly front, Disney still has a live action remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs set for 2024.
The film “introduces Wendy Darling, a young girl looking to avoid boarding school who meets Peter Pan, a boy who refuses to grow up. Alongside her brothers and a tiny fairy, Tinker Bell, she travels with Peter to the magical world of Neverland. There, she encounters an evil pirate captain, Captain Hook, and embarks on a thrilling and dangerous adventure that will change her life forever.”
Peter Pan & Wendy flies onto Disney+ on April 28th.
