Leave it to the director of JASON X to be in charge of what is seriously the weirdest sounding f*cking thing I’ve heard of in quite a while. Director Jim Isaac is in the midst of prepping PIG HUNT, which is about, how do I put this… a 3,000 pound killer boar called The Ripper and the marijuana-farming, throat-slitting girls who worship him.
But The Ripper needs some victims to gore, and the girls need throats to slit, so toss in a group of friends who travel to a remote ranch to do some pig hunting (um, do people actually go pig hunting? What do you do, walk up to them and shoot them in the back of the head, Mafia-style?). It is while on this pig hunt that they run afoul of the legendary monster boar and his harem of stoned, knife-happy hotties, as well as a “machete-toting” hippie and of course, the rascally local redneck population.
Isacc talked to Fangoria about the totally nutso project: “Our goal is to make this movie our way, without the influence of the Hollywood machine that unfortunately has created a system that chips away at the creative process with little respect for the filmmakers. I simply want to do something my way for once.”
“PIG HUNT is the most exciting project I’ve done to date. It’s sexy, gory, outrageous, scary, dark, twisted, funny…you name it, we’ve got it! And since I’ve decided to go completely independent, I have no adult supervision!”
I’d say it’s a good thing he’s doing it his way, cuz Hollywood is routinely gobbling up psychotic boar thrillers and spitting them out, turning them into compromised, not-as-totally-f*cking-looney-tunes-as- they-should-be piles of crap. It’s about time someone made an entry in this genre that isn’t watered down for the Myspace generation.
Impressively, he’s put together a pretty top-notch crew: Oscar-nominated production designer Geoffrey Kirkland (CHILDREN OF MEN, ANGELA’S ASHES) and Oscar-nominated costume designer Aggie Guerrard Rodgers (THE COLOR PURPLE). Also, one of the stars of the flick will be Les Claypool, frontman of PRIMUS, which gives you a good idea of how wacky this could be.
Isaac also has the oft-delayed SKINWALKERS coming out this July 27, just the latest release date for the flick. (perhaps Jim’s bitterness toward Hollywood stems from this film’s troubled voyage to the big screen?)
