Ammon announced last year that Alexandre Aja was gearing up to remake PIRANHA. Aja of course is the man behind HIGH TENSION and THE HILLS HAVE EYES.
Just a few months ago Eric spoke to Mr. Aja about the film. And now STYD is reporting on a couple more PIRANHA news bits.
Firstly they’re reporting that the film will actually be in 3-D!? Now that seems a bit strange considering PIRANHA 2 producer Ovidio Assonitis had his own PIRANHA 3-D planned, entitled PIRANHA 3-D: THE INVISIBLE MENACE. Here is where I shrug and say that you can never have too many flesh eating fish in 3-D. That’s the word right now, we’ll keep you updated if anything changes on that.
STYD is also reporting that Dimension Films have smacked a release date on PIRANHA, July 24, 2009. Hmmm a summer flick? Are they going for a blockbuster here? I wouldn’t doubt it with Aja behind the camera and a summer setting. The synopsis reads: A tremor causes Arizona’s Lake Havasu floor to open, setting free scores of prehistoric piranhas.
