Polite Society trailer: Nida Manzoor’s martial arts action film brings the fight to a wedding heist

Nida Manzoor’s Polite Society trailer presents us with a merry mash-up of sisterly affection, parental disappointment, and bold action.

The British television writer and director Nida Manzoor isn’t pulling any punches with her new film Polite Society. This lavish, colorful, and spirited martial arts movie stands to change how some people see high Society, never knowing if a human wrecking machine is hiding among the ranks. Manzoor’s Polite Society trailer presents us with a merry mash-up of sisterly affection, parental disappointment, and bold action. It’s a preview that’s as exciting as it is gorgeous, and we’re counting the days until the movie hits theaters on April 28, 2023.

The Polite Society trailer focuses on Ria Khan, who believes she must save her older sister Lena from her impending marriage. After enlisting the help of her friends, Ria attempts to pull off the most ambitious wedding heists in the name of independence and sisterhood.

Manzoor wrote and directed Polite Society with Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Olivier Kaempfer, and John Pocock producing. The flashy, fierce, and fun-loving film stars Priya Kansara, Ritu Arya, Nimra Bucha, Akshay Khanna, Seraphina Beh, and Ella Bruccoleri.

Polite Society hails from Focus Features and is an official 2023 Sundance Film Festival selection. JoBlo’s Chris Bumbray is hitting Sundance this year and plans to watch Manzoor’s film alongside a slew of other features.

Polite Society shares DNA with Manzoor’s We Are Lady Parts, a TV series focusing on a group of Muslim women in the United Kingdom confronting the expectations put on them by aspects of their culture. Anjana Vasan, Sarah Kameela Impey, Juliette Motamed, Faith Omole, and Lucie Shorthouse star as members of an all-female Muslim punk band looking to change their lot in life.

The Polite Society trailer is giving me goosebumps. I love experiencing action films from different cultures, and Manzoor’s hard-hitting heist film looks fun, funny, and visually splendiferous. I look forward to seeing the cast’s sweet moves, flowing costumes, and tightly-written character chemistry. I don’t make it to the theater much, but I’ll make a concerted effort to experience this thrilling actioner on the big screen.

What do you think about the Polite Society trailer? Are you looking forward to seeing Ria Khan kick ass? Let us know in the comments.
