Poster for S. Craig Zahler’s Brawl in Cell Block 99 starring Vince Vaughn

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

It’s hard not to get excited for the upcoming prison-set thriller BRAWL IN CELL BLOCK 99, and that’s not just because it allows us to see Vince Vaughn, Don Johnson and Udo Kier all in the same movie. The film has been written and directed by S. Craig Zahler, whose directorial debut BONE TOMAHAWK was one of the best films of 2015; we here at AITH are sold on anything the man has in the pipeline (and that also includes PUPPET MASTER: THE LITTLEST REICH, of course).

CELL BLOCK 99 has just released its first poster, and while it only gives us the back of Vaughn’s battered and tatted head, it’s still getting us pumped for what the film will deliver. How much ass will Vince kick, and how much of his ass will be kicked in return?

The synopsis for BRAWL:

A former boxer named Bradley loses his job as an auto mechanic, and his troubled marriage is about to expire. At this crossroads in his life, he feels that he has no better option than to work for an old buddy as a drug courier. This vocation improves his situation until the terrible day that he finds himself in a gunfight between a group of police officers and his own ruthless allies. When the smoke clears, Bradley is badly hurt and thrown in prison, where his enemies force him to commit acts of violence that turn the place into a savage battleground.

Vince Vaughn, Jennifer Carpenter, Udo Kier, Don Johnson and Marc Blucas star in BRAWL IN CELL BLOCK 99, which hits theaters on October 6th and VOD October 13th. It will have its World Premiere at the Venice Film Festival and its North American Premiere at Toronto International Film Festival, followed quickly by a showing at Fantastic Fest.
