Predator (1987) Revisited – Horror Game Review

Last Updated on August 18, 2022

In 1987, Arnold Schwarzenegger and director John McTiernan teamed up to bring us one of the greatest sci-fi action movies ever made, Predator (watch it HERE). Not surprisingly, a Predator video game was also released for the Nintendo Entertainment System around that time. With the new episode of our Playing with Fear video series, we’re looking back at that original Predator game. Was it any good? Find out by watching the video embedded above!

In the Predator video game,

The player takes on the role of “Dutch” Schaefer and must make it from the beginning to the end of the level. The player starts out with his fists, but can also collect a machine gun, laser gun (the only weapon that can do damage to the Predator), and fragmentation grenades. The player has infinite ammo for each weapon he carries, but can only carry one weapon at a time. The player loses any weapons they carry from the previous level into the next. The laser and grenades can be used to break certain walls and ground. Some levels have two exits, one of which will warp the player ahead several levels. At the end of every few levels, a Predator will appear, which the player must neutralize before proceeding to the next level.

Episodes in the Playing with Fear series take

a look at the most impactful, successful, and scariest video games throughout the history of the medium and deciding if they’re still worth playing today.

Playing with Fear is Written and Narrated by Andrew Hatfield, Edited by Tyler Nichols, Produced by John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
