Hilton Treves, a visual effects artist who has worked on projects like 2018’s Tomb Raider and the Africa-set thrillers Rogue and Endangered Species, created a six episode survival thriller series called Pulse – and now Variety has broken the news that Pulse is going to be streaming the series in the United States.

Pulse premiered on the streaming service Showmax in South Africa back in May. It will be arriving on BET+ on August 18th.

Filmed in South Africa and Mauritius, Pulse shows what happens when

an electromagnetic pulse disables a secure building and disrupts the bio-electric signals in everyone’s minds, trapping a group of video game designers and turning each floor into a psychotic battlefield. The show questions whether the modern human race can really survive without the technology that defines our way of life today.

The series stars Tarryn Wyngaard (Raised by Wolves), Thapelo Mokoena (Nothing for Mahala), Carel Nel (Grant), Sven Ruygrok (Spud), and Earl Wan (Just Mates).

A collaboration between Media Musketeers, Forlan Film, Showmax, and The Mediapro Studio, Pulse was produced by Jake Lanning, Ben Lanning, Potego Matseke, and director Sallas De Jager, with Steve Lanning serving as executive producer. Stephen R. Clarke was the writer.

Wyngaard provided the following statement:

Pulse is unique in so many ways. Stephen Clarke’s scripts were so incredibly out of this world and like nothing I’ve ever read before.”

Mokoena added:

There isn’t anything like this show. No offense to every other amazing series I’ve made, but Pulse is really one of the most, if not the most, amazing project I’ve ever made in my 20-year career.”

I hadn’t heard of Pulse when it was heading to Showmax (and honestly, this was the first time I heard of Showmax), but it sounds like an interesting show. I might have to check it out at some point.
