Quiz Lady trailer: Awkwafina, Sandra Oh, Will Ferrell, Jason Schwartzman, and more lead a new sibling comedy

20th Century Studios is ready to share a look at its hilarious Quiz Lady trailer, starring Awkwafina (The Farewell, Migration, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) and Sandra Oh (Killing Eve, Under the Tuscan Sun, Grey’s Anatomy) as two sisters determined to raise enough money to pay their missing mother’s debt and recover their dog. Quiz Lady will premiere on November 3, 2023, exclusively on Disney+ in Canada. The original film will premiere at the 48th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday, September 9.

In Quiz Lady, a brilliant but tightly wound, gameshow-obsessed young woman, Anne (Awkwafina), and her estranged train wreck of a sister, Jenny (Sandra Oh), must work together to help cover their mother’s gambling debts. When Anne’s beloved dog is kidnapped, they set out on a wild, cross-country trek to get the cash the only way they know how: by turning Anne into a bona-fide gameshow champion. The movie, which also stars Jason Schwartzman, Holland Taylor, Tony Hale, and Will Ferrell, is directed by Jessica Yu, written by Jen D’Angelo, and produced by Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum, Maggie Haskins, Itay Reiss, Jen D’Angelo, Awkwafina, and Sandra Oh, with Alex Brown and Erika Hampson serving as executive producers.

In the Quiz Lady trailer, Anne and Jenny discover their mother’s gone missing, and she’s left crippling debt in her wake. Determined to locate their mom, the sisters hatch a plan to pay their mother’s gambling debt by entering Anne as a contestant on a popular game show. As the duo travels across the open road toward their destination, they run afoul of road rage, nervous sweats, dog nappers, and nosy onlookers who think the girls have cocaine. With time running out, Anne and Jenny need to pick up the pace and win the pot if their mother is going to return home safe and sound.

I needed a good laugh today, and the Quiz Lady trailer delivers. Awkwafina and Oh feel like a solid pairing for madcap comedy, and road trips always lead to shenanigans, no matter the destination. Let’s go!
