While some people choose to throw soup on priceless works of art, actor Rainn Wilson is taking a different approach to bringing attention to the ongoing threat of climate change. According to reports, Wilson is changing his name to Rainnfall Heat Wave Extreme Winter Wilson. The Office and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story actor says the drastic change to his name is “not a joke,” and it’s to support a campaign managed by the climate change awareness group Arctic Basecamp.

As a board member of the organization, Wilson is a staunch supporter of the group’s mission to alert the world about climate change. The name change came before Basecamp’s participation in the United Nation’s COP 27 in Egypt.

“With the help of my scientist friends at Arctic Basecamp, I’ve changed my name to Rainnfall Heat Wave Extreme Winter Wilson. This is not a joke, I’m as serious as the melting Arctic, which amplifies global risks including extreme weather events around the globe,” Wilson wrote in a video posted to Arctic Basecamp’s social media outreach.

“I’m hoping this name change brings attention to this growing… er, melting issue. We need world leaders at COP27 to take notice and take action. The Arctic is melting at millions of litres per second, yet this problem can’t seem to make a name for itself, so it’s up to us to make a name for it.”

Even though some world leaders ignore the growing threat of climate change, there’s no denying the rapid pace at which parts of the world are changing due to extreme weather conditions and alarming environmental changes is disturbing. Wilson’s goal is to encourage more people to change their names to raise awareness of the ongoing threat to our existence.

“If enough of us do this, then maybe COP27 will be where our world leaders sit up and notice Arctic risks and introduce a solution,” Wilson stated.
