Ralph Breaks the Internet to be new title for Wreck-It Ralph sequel

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

I was blown away by the first WRECK-IT RALPH. When I heard that it was the "WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT for videogames", I balked. Until I actually sat down to watch the thing. It certainly delivered on the hype, and then some – I was a bawling mess by the end of it. My only real complaint was that, being set in an arcade, it really limited the kinds of games Ralph could experience and explore.

Well, it seems that the sequel is going to fix that. Titled RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET, it looks like Ralph is going to fuck up some internet games. Whether that means he'll be involved in console games like CALL OF DUTY and ROCKET LEAGUE, or a spoof of MMORPGs like WORLD OF WARCRAFT, or even CANDY CRUSH-esque app games remains to be seen. Either way, it's a much bigger canvas. One of the two directors, Rich Moore, elaborates:

To take these characters we love and have them enter the enormous world of the internet has given us so much to explore…Our production team has been hard at work designing a world that takes something we all think we know – the internet – but shows it in a whole new, imaginative way.

The second director, Phil Johnston, adds:

We’re so excited to be working with Ralph, Vanellope von Schweetz, Fix-It Felix and Sergeant Calhoun again, and we have new characters we look forward to unveiling. At the center of this film, as in the first one, is the relationship between Ralph and Vanellope, two once-outcasts, who in each other, found true friendship.

Well at least the old gang will be back as well. I honestly couldn't be more excited. With the influx of online gaming – especially with regards to console gaming – it seems like the right step to go. I can't wait! But what do you Schmoes think? Sound off below!

RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET to come smashing into theaters March 9th, 2018.
