The last CONAN update we gave you came last month, with Dirk Blackman and Howard McCain both signing on to pen the script. But Lionsgate also have Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer working on a draft… well the more the merrier I guess.
Now in the past few months there’s been rumors flying around on who’ll be putting on the loincloth and battling baddies. Well there’s been even more rumors on who’ll be stepping behind the camera to direct this +100 million budgeted picture.
We’ve heard everyone and anyone. From Xavier Gens to Robert Rodriguez to Rob Zombie to Neil Marshall. What does it all mean? Well that Brett Ratner is the new logical choice of course! Forget the four genre guys I just mentioned, let’s go with Ratner. Seems that’s the smartest move for Lionsgate right? Put their biggest budgeted flick to date in the hands of the guy who did X-MEN: THE LAST STAND.
No ladies and gentlemen, unfortunately I’m not kidding in the least. I like to think I’ve got a good sense of humor… but not even I’d go that far. The guys over at Dread Central dropped word that the hot topic is Nu Image offering Ratner the gig. Now this isn’t entirely confirmed nor a done deal at all… so I suppose we can hold out hope for now.
Now stone me if you must… but I found Ratner’s RUSH HOUR films halfway enjoyable, well the first two at least. But even so… Ratner doing CONAN is just wrong. I just don’t see the reasoning behind this at all. Now if it does happen, (that was hard to type.) hopefully we’ll get an idea as to WHY it happened. As always, we’ll keep you updated.
