With the success of CLOVERFIELD it’s no surprise that there’s some heavy sequel talk going on over at Paramount.
Before the opening weekend was even done I was telling you all about some sequel rumblings. But now, more than a week after release, it seems the possibility of CLOVERFIELD 2 is much more prominent.
According to Variety, Paramount have recently started talks with director Matt Reeves, hoping he’ll revisit CLOVERFIELD. Of course nothing can officially happen until after the writer’s strike, but Paramount are also in talks with writer Drew Goddard and producer J.J. Abrams. So basically Paramount is aiming to bring back the original trio behind CLOVERFIELD.
No word on whether this one will center on Reeves’ idea of a completely different film with a different group of people being filmed during the same exact monster attack or if it will concentrate on the (could-be) survivors of the first film.
If Reeves does sign onto CLOVERFIELD 2, it’s expected that he’ll put that before his other project, THE INVISIBLE WOMAN, which he also wrote with J.J. Abrams producing. Plus, as Eric pointed out earlier, Reeves has also been mentioned as a potential director for THE WOLF MAN, taking Mark Romanek’s place.
So looks like there’s a lot of jazz in there. We’ll keep you updated on any more CLOVERFIELD 2/Matt Reeves news as we hear it.
