Richard Gere and Topher Grace team up for spy thriller The Double

Here’s an unlikely (but somewhat interesting) combo: Richard Gere (BROOKLYN’S FINEST) and Topher Grace (PREDATORS) will be teaming up for THE DOUBLE, a spy thriller from screenwriter Michael Brandt (THE A-TEAM, WANTED).

Brandt, making his directorial debut here, will be joined by his frequent writing partner Derek Haas (3:10 TO YUMA, 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS), both of whom, according to THR, are fans of films such as THE CONVERSATION, THREE DAYS OF THE CONDOR, and NO WAY OUT. Following similar lines, Brandt and Hass’s film “begins with a murder of a senator in Washington by a Soviet assassin long thought to be dead. A retired CIA operative (Gere), who spent his career going toe to toe with his Soviet nemeses, is forced to partner with a young FBI agent (Grace) to hunt the killer down.”

Gere was last seen in the pretty okay BROOKLYN’S FINEST (where I felt he turned in one of the film’s strongest performances), and in something I’ve never even heard of called HACHIKO: A DOG’S STORY, which is rocking a pretty high rating over at IMDb. Huh. He’s got the animated film HENRY AND ME voicing the title character, and the Gary Marshall romance film STATE OF THE UNION opposite Annette Bening.

Grace, meanwhile, will be off doing battle/running the f*ck away from dreadlocked aliens in PREDATORS come this July. He also has YOUNG AMERICANS featuring good-lookers Anna Faris, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Teresa Palmer (and yay, Michael Biehn!).
