Extremely bleak day in the horror world today, as we’re all saddened to learn of the passing of director and special effects maestro Jim Isaac. He was 51.

Isaac, whose credits as a director include THE HORROR SHOW (aka HOUSE III), SKINWALKERS and JASON X, had been bravely battling cancer, which we wrote about last fall. His JASON X screenwriter, Todd Farmer, was evidently the first one to break the somber news via his Facebook account earlier this morning.

In addition to being an extremely capable director of B-movies, he also worked as a special effects coordinator, on films like HOUSE II, VIRTUOSITY and David Cronenberg’s eXistenZ.

Isaac’s last film, released in 2008, was the quirky backwoods horror feast PIG HUNT. A bonkers good time it is, and if you haven’t seen it yet, you’d do well to check it out today in Mr. Isaac’s honor.
