Author Michael Crichton, whose books inspired movies like JURASSIC PARK, THE LOST WORLD, DISCLOSURE and THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN, died late yesterday at his home in Los Angeles after a long and private battle with cancer. In addition to his work as an author, Crichton had a long career in Hollywood writing the scripts for WESTWORLD, THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY and TWISTER while also creating the long-running NBC series “ER.” Crichton started out his career as a student at Harvard Medical School where he first began writing under the pseudonym John Lange. His books eventually went on to sell over 150 million copies worldwide (many of which were mine when I wanted a quick, cheap read on a long flight). A statement released by his family said, “While the world knew him as a great story teller…family and friends knew Michael Crichton as a devoted husband, loving father and generous friend who inspired each of us to strive to see the wonders of our world through new eyes.” Crichton was 66 years old.
