Roadrunner trailer: Anthony Bourdain doc explores the “bad boy of cooking”

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

The world became an infinitely less interesting place on June 8th, 2018 when the great Anthony Bourdain was found dead in his French hotel room. A tragic suicide, Bourdain was famous worldwide as kind of the “bad boy of cooking” thanks to his iconic bestseller, “Kitchen Confidential” where he outlined the rock n’ roll lifestyle of a big-time chef. Open about his past with drugs, Bourdain had evolved into a noted world traveler and Bon Vivante thanks to his wildly popular CNN show Parts Unknown, and seemed beloved by everyone who encountered him.

Sadly, we never know what goes on in a person’s mind off-camera, and I suppose Bourdain had his demons. Nevertheless, his legacy goes on with the all-new documentary, Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain looking to give the great man the send-off he deserves. Directed by Morgan Neville, who made the great Mister Rogers doc Won’t You Be My Neighbor, this premieres at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 16th, before its North American theatrical debut from Focus Features. It will also air on CNN and HBO Max at some point in the near future, with them on board as producers. Judging from the trailer above, this looks to be an exceptional portrait of a man who, despite his many demons, always made the world a better place by just doing what he did best – enjoying life.
