Some pretty big news coming in from IGN today. Ever since George A. Romero’s DIARY OF THE DEAD was picked up there’s been all kinds of stuff going around about DIARY OF THE DEAD 2. From the actual plot, to Romero writing and directing, to posters. Well Romero himself has stated that there aren’t any plans for a sequel for the time being.
So was this just a big rumor that got out of control? It seemed like it was legit. Romero had this to say to IGN at a screening of DIARY OF THE DEAD in London in regards to DIARY 2:
“I’m not sure where that came from. I wouldn’t mind continuing the discussion, but nothing is decided yet. Euphoria seems to have set in even though the film has only screened about six times. The only way I can see it being worthwhile is if we use the same characters, which would be the first time I have done that. I don’t have an idea yet, but if the idea and the money can meet somewhere in the middle, it’s possible.”
Well I don’t know about you, but I’m taking his word over anyone elses. I wouldn’t doubt if DIARY OF THE DEAD 2 eventually does get made, but for now let’s all look forward to DIARY OF THE DEAD, because this one has got some positive buzz building behind it.
