Ryan Reynolds is looking to cash in big from the cell phone business, as T-Mobile is acquiring Mint Mobile–the network operator Reynolds has a stake in–in a deal that could be worth $1.35 billion. Your move, Hugh Jackman!

In a humorous statement, Ryan Reynolds said, “Mint Mobile is the best deal in wireless and today’s news only enhances our ability to deliver for our customers…We are so happy T-Mobile beat out an aggressive last-minute bid from my mom Tammy Reynolds as we believe the excellence of their 5G network will provide a better strategic fit than my mom’s slightly-above-average mahjong skills. I am so proud of the entire Mint team and so excited for what’s to come.”

What’s to come is a massive payout. While the exact size of the check Ryan Reynolds will get from the Mint Mobile deal hasn’t been disclosed, he reportedly owns between 20-25% percent of the company. That could potentially make his payout around $270 million if the $1.35 billion holds and our crack team of mathematicians are right.

While the Mint Mobile deal is a significant one, Ryan Reynolds is no stranger to business ownership and sales. In 2020, Aviation American Gin–which Reynolds owned a stake in–was acquired for $610 million. That same year, Reynolds and Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) became co-owners of the Welsh football club Wrexham A.F.C. He has even expressed interest in owning NHL’s Ottawa Senators, reportedly entering a bid for the team this month in a deal worth upwards of $900 million.

Outside of his business ventures, Ryan Reynolds does a little thing called acting. His most anticipated upcoming movie is Deadpool 3, which is set for a November 8th, 2024 release. It will also mark the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, which he hasn’t played on the big screen since 2017’s Logan. There are no reports of Jackman making any billion-dollar deals this week, which Reynolds will probably have some fun with in the near future.
