Despite positive response from film festivals, BURIED barely made a sound when it hit limited theaters in late September, nor when it opened wider two weeks later. Hopefully it will find its audience on video.

Lionsgate will release the thriller on DVD and Blu-ray/DVD combo pack on January 18th. The cover art can be seen to the right. The Blu-ray will contain the lone extra: a making-of featurette entitled Unearthing Buried.

The film is written by Chris Sparling and directed by Rodrigo Cortés. It was shot in Barcelona, and it takes place almost entirely inside of a coffin. Here’s the plot:

Paul Conroy isn’t ready to die. But when he wakes up 6 feet underground with no idea of who put him there or why, life for the truck driver and family man instantly becomes a hellish struggle for survival. Buried with only a cell phone and a lighter, his contact with the outside world and ability to piece together clues that could help him discover his location are maddeningly limited. Poor reception, a rapidly draining battery , and a dwindling oxygen supply become his worst enemies in a tightly confined race against time- fighting panic, despair and delirium, Paul has only 90 minutes to be rescued before his worst nightmare comes true.

The movie had a couple of cool posters so it’s disappointing they settled for a giant image of Ryan Reynolds (THE AMITYVILLE HORROR) for the cover, although it still looks better than a lot of discs to hit shelves.
