Way back at the beginning of the year I told you all about a horror/thriller heading our way from Lionsgate and Ghost House Pictures called DIBBUK BOX. You guys remember that shite? It was a random little project that we haven’t heard zilch from since. Well… until today that is!
You see according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog the project has found itself a director in the form of award-winning Danish filmmaker Ole Bornedal. Not too shabby, eh? Bornedal is actually the dude that brought us the highly acclaimed international flick THE SUBSTITUTE a couple years ago, so he’s got to have some idea of what he’s doing. He steps in to direct DIBBUK BOX, which is based on an article from the LA Times called ‘A Jinx in the Box.’ Lionsgate are planning on putting this one on the fast track, with a January 2011 start date targeted. The film is in the vein of The Exorcist or The Shining, based on real events that transpired after a family wound up in possession of a haunted box, setting off a harrowing struggle to rid themselves of the box’s evil curse. The real-life box gained notoriety in 2004 when it sold on eBay after causing inexplicable bad fortune to its owners, which was attributed to a dibbuk — a malevolent spirit of Jewish folklore trapped in the haunted box.
