The back-story behind Ole Bornedal’s THE POSSESSION is pretty depressing to say the least. I remember first hearing about this one and thinking it really had absolutely no selling point. It’s gone from delays to title changes to even more delays and here we are today we even more bad news for the supernatural feature.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Lionsgate has decided to push THE POSSESSION back yet again. Instead of hitting theaters in a few months on January 6, 2012 THE POSSESSION will now be released on August 31, 2012. Ain’t that a b*tch? Almost eight months later! Damn!

The film will follow Clyde Breneck and his 10-year-old daughter, Em, who purchases an antique box at a yard sale. With the box, Em accidentally releases an ancient spirit that has one goal: to devour her. Clyde must team work with his ex-wife to put an end to the curse.

Now one can speculate that Lionsgate made this move after Paramount moved up their micro-budget flick THE DEVIL INSIDE from February 24, 2012 to January 6th… but eight months? That’s just uncalled for.

Starring Kyra Sedgwick, Jeffery Dean Morgan, Agam Darshi (below), Natasha Calis and Madison Davenport and coming from producer Sam Raimi, THE POSSESSION will now hit theaters on August 31, 2012. Lionsgate should just dump this one and take it as a loss. Once we hear more, like another delay perhaps, you can bet we’ll be right here telling you about it.
