Don’t you just love these twisted international horror flicks? I know I do! Just yesterday I told you about that chainsaw schoolgirl flick and today I’m telling you about a scissors wielding chick who likes chopping off female legs.
I’m being completely serious. Just look at that still above? Sold yet? I was! It looks like the love child of Edward Scissorhands and .. an asian chick. And dare I say I’m a bit turned on? Enough about my one-eyed-asian-women-wielding-sharp-objects fantasies though. Let’s get to this movie!
The Japanese flick is called X-CROSS and comes from BATTLE ROYALE 2’s Kenta Fukasaku. DEATH NOTE’s Tetsuya Oishi penned the script based off the novel by Nobuyuki Joko. Here’s the synopsis: Still stinging from a bad break-up, Shiyori heads off on a girls-only weekend with her best friend Aiko. Unfortunately, the remote hot springs resort they go to isn’t exactly as promised; the brochure didn’t mention anything about bizarre locals, blood rituals, or crazed harajuku girls brandishing frightfully large pairs of scissors. Soon, each girl is running for her life—they’re just not running from the same things.
That sounds pretty damn cool! Sure, it could be a bit better if they got rid of the whole ‘cult and rituals’ shindig but I’m still down! A psycho chick with giant scissors chasing you down… that’s just awesome. The movie stars Matsushita Nao, Suzuki Ami, and Ikeuchi Hiroyuki. Broken hearts lead to fractured storylines in Kenta Fukasaku’s near-delirious X-Cross (pronounced “criss-cross”). Working from a script by Oishi Tetsuya, who also wrote the Death Note movies, Fukasaku takes two classic horror tropes—the mysterious village with a bloody secret and the unstoppable killer bent on vengeance—and twists them around each other. Directing with a manic glee, he shuttles back and forth between stories, constantly ratcheting up the energy and building towards a conclusion of epic mash-up proportions. Fast and funny, frightening and fantastic, X-Cross must be seen to believed.
