Which is worse…movies based on board-games or movies based on theme park rides?

As you debate that one, we’ll have you know Ehren Kruger (SCREAM 3, TRANSFORMERS) has been tapped by Disney to write a script for the movie based on of their oldest rides, MATTERHORN. Not sure if he’ll simply polish the first draft by Jason Dean Hall or if he’ll do a page one rewrite. As we told you back in January, feature first-timer Brian Beletic (a director of commercials) is set to direct.

The story centers on five young adventure seekers — an action sports guy, travel guide, cartographer, archeologist and escape artist — who venture into the Alps for mysterious reasons and face Yetis that guard a secret.

Given the new synopsis and Kruger’s track record, it sounds like MATTERHORN might be AITH appropriate after-all. Sure, it’ll likely be PG-13, but was Krueger’s THE RING. Remember, he also did script work for SCREAM 4 after Kevin Williamson bailed production. Among Kruger’s other credits are THE SKELETON KEY, ARLINGTON ROAD, THE RING TWO, REINDEER GAMES and THE BROTHERS GRIMM. Not exactly works of art, but dude’s definitely a genre writer. We’ll forget his involvement with the TRANSFORMERS flicks for now…

All things considered, you have faith in Kruger and Beletic to make something worthwhile?
